Executive, Operations – Ningbo, China

We are looking for a talented shipping professional to oversee vessel operations and equipment logistics, in this key operations role, as operations accounts for a large part of day-to-day activities, covering terminal and vessel movements as well as cargo operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all port/cargo operations are planned and executed in accordance with ESA’s requirements, with optimal productivity, cost effectiveness, and attention to customer service.
  • Ensure documentation is provided and delivered on time (for imports/exports/transshipments) as required to statutory authorities/ports/terminals for vessel calls, among others.
  • Prepare documentation and applications to local Harbor Master Officers for approval on the discharge, transit and loading of Hazardous Cargo.
  • Preparing (e.g. dealing with the Masters) and properly circulating the required pre-arrival forms (Immigration, Garbage, ISPS, Hazmat, Port Services, Fire Guards, … and so on).
  • Ensure all booked containers are shipped, and resolve any issues with terminal/planner/customer services.
  • Compile/receive local reports on terminal performance, and address any issues, while providing reports to operations/network operations as required.
  • Organise/provide husbandry services to ESA operated vessels, and act as a local point of contact as needed between ship/terminal and ESL HQ, suppliers etc.
  • Act as local liaison point on marine/terminal operational matters with partner lines, and in respect of ESA cargo on partner vessels.
  • Coordinate with Terminal Operators/Stevedore, and arrange necessary labor to minimise berthing time.
  • Assist ESA customer service sales teams with regard to terminal related activities/issues.
  • Ensure that the berthing windows with terminals are coordinated and synchronized with proforma vessel schedules, and that coastal schedules are maintained.
  • Coordinate vessel arrival and departure with boarding agents and assist with husbandry issues.
  • Represent ESL/ESA as charterer’s representative on chartered vessel.
  • Coordinate inbound empty with equipment depot.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the container related industry.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with the China market and its specific challenges and opportunities.
